On April 8th, at the fifth session of the fifth council meeting of the China Light Industry Council and the fourth session of the eighth council meeting of the All-China Federation of Handicraft Cooperatives held in Guangyuan, Sichuan, the title of “Hometown of Chinese Notebooks – Tengjiao” was officially awarded to Tengjiao Town in Pingyang County. Lin Qiang, Deputy Secretary of the Tengjiao Town Party Committee, attended the award ceremony.

Tengjiao’s printing industry has a history of over 80 years, starting from the early years of the Republic of China, developing through the early years of the People’s Republic, and evolving from manual small platen presses to German four-color Heidelberg offset presses. Established in the 1950s, Tengjiao’s printing industry has weathered more than half a century. Currently, one-third of the town’s population is engaged in the notebook industry, which has a complete industrial chain. The industry also provides employment opportunities for idle labor in surrounding towns and has encouraged many university graduates to return and start businesses in their hometowns.

Tengqiao Town is home to over 600 notebook-related enterprises, offering a wide variety of notebook products with innovative designs, giving it a unique advantage both in the province and nationwide. In 2023, the preliminary statistics indicate a production value of 3.5 billion yuan. Additionally, many of these companies have e-commerce operations, with preliminary estimates showing e-commerce sales exceeding 1 billion yuan for the year 2023.

Moving forward, Tengjiao Town will use this opportunity to further advance the green and intelligent development of the notebook industry, promote the integration of printing and copying with cultural and creative industries, and transition from traditional notebook product sales to the emerging field of e-commerce. The town aims to forge a growth path driven by innovation, creating new business models for the notebook industry.
